The Prince Edward Island Golf Association is offering junior golfers in the province a summer long program of competition and skill development . The Association has released the schedule and details for its Order of Merit Tour .
The Order of Merit Tour provides an opportunity for local juniors to play regularly scheduled tournaments at courses throughout the province between June and August. The 2013 Order of Merit is comprised of 9 single day tournaments and the 36 hole Provincial Junior Championship which will be held on August 24th and 25th in Summerside .
The Order of Merit Tour is used to select players to attend both the Atlantic Future Links Championship as well as the Canadian National Junior Championships. The first three tournaments of the season will also be used to finalize the 2013 Canada Games Team that will represent Prince Edward Island in Quebec in August.
The P.E.I.G.A.’s Junior Development program is under direction of the Association’s newly named Provincial Golf Coach , Dallas Desjardins of Summerside .
“ This year’s program is very exciting and with all of the tournaments and championships taking place there are some great opportunities for boys and girls to develop their golf skills. Dallas and his assistant John Schurman have put together a tremendous program for the summer ” said the Association’s Executive Director Ron MacNeill.
“ The addition of the Canada Games adds another level of excitement for our juniors . The opportunity to represent your province at the highest level is very special “ said MacNeill.
The 2013 Order of Merit schedule and registration form can be found on the Golf Association’s website www.peiga.ca . Registration in the program is limited so juniors are encouraged to sign up as soon possible. The fee is $200 and the first tournament is June 8th .
