P.E.I. Golf Association Plans Exciting Season

 The 2012 golf season is just about here and the Prince Edward Island Golf Association is gearing up for an exciting year. The Association’s mandate is to “ Grow the Game “ which it pursues through a diverse number of programs targeted to golfers of all ages and skills. 

The Association’s  2012 Tournament calendar is now on it’s website www.peiga.ca . This years schedule includes over 30 tournaments including a new event at Countryview on July 28th and 29th which will give players a chance to play the clubs expanded new 18 hole layout .

A highlight of the year will be the P.E.I. Amateur Championship which will take place at Avondale on July 7th and 8th . The Amateur will determine the selection of players for the Women’s Amateur , Men’s Senior and Women’s Senior Teams that will represent P.E.I. at National Championships this year. The Men’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Teams will be selected through the 5 tournament Player’s Series which will finish at the Lobster Carnival Tournament in Summerside on July 15th . 

In August the Canadian Senior Women’s Championship will be held at the Belvedere Golf Club . The best senior players in the country will test their skills on the historic and always challenging Charlottetown layout . 

The Association  has a full junior program planned for the year which will include a new Maritime Junior Team Championship that will take place on August 27th and 28th in Amherst , Nova Scotia. As the sport governing organization a key goal for the P.E.I.G.A. in 2012 is the selection of a coach for the 2013 Canada Games Team . Once a coach is appointed the qualifying process for the boy’s and girl’s teams will be determined .

Executive Director of the P.E.I.G.A., Ron MacNeill, encourages every golfer in the province to become a member of the Provincial Association and Golf Canada .

If you are not a club player you can purchase a Public Player card for $39.95 through Golf Canada at www.golfcanada.ca “ ,said MacNeill .

The Prince Edward Island Golf Association’s Annual General Meeting takes place at the Belvedere Golf Club on Saturday , April 14th  at 10:00 am .
