The Prince Edward Island Golf Association has appointed Gregg Stewart of Kensington as it's new Chief Rules Official . He succeeds Fred Coady who recently retired from the position after many years of service . Gregg Stewart is the only Level 3 qualified rules official in the province . As Chief Rules Official, Gregg will oversee officiating at provincial tournaments and will promote the development of new rules officials in the province .
Last year year Mr. Stewart worked as a rules official at several amateur tournaments including the P.E.I. Amateur at Belvedere, the Stanhope Open and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Championship at Brudenell .
“We are fortunate to have Gregg accept this position . The Rules of Golf can be challenging for golfers and it is important for the sport to have someone that understands and promotes them . Golfers at all levels ,especially juniors , can benefit from a better understanding of the rules “, said P.E.I. Golf Association Executive Director, Ron MacNeill.
Mr. Stewart is currently working towards his Level 4 standing which is the highest certification level attainable through Golf Canada.
